A team of researchers composed of Filippo Biondi, Armando Mei, and Corrado Malanga has combined their skills and experience to investigate what no one had previously had the ability or courage to tackle. In previous works – including books and a scientific article published in an international journal – Malanga, Mei, and Biondi had already explored the history of the Giza Plateau, linking the monumental structures to the ancient astronomical knowledge of the Egyptian people.
This time, however, they went a step further: thanks to advanced technologies derived from the aerospace industry and an innovative approach that transforms electromagnetic information into phononic spectroscopy, they were able to observe the interior of the Pyramid of Khnum Khufu, revealing hidden structures that had remained invisible for centuries. These are internal elements of the monument that Egyptologists had been searching for years, using non-invasive techniques.
The idea of employing Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) to explore the interior of Egypt’s ancient megalithic monuments led the three researchers to bring their expertise together in an attempt to understand the true internal structure of the Pyramid of Khafre. The goal: to place the main structures of the Giza Plateau into a broader and more accurate historical context of ancient Egypt.
The results of this historical-scientific approach will be presented on July 27 in Spoleto, during a major event at the Teatro Nuovo Gian Carlo Menotti, organized by the cultural association Visioni d’Autore for Spoleto Olistica.

Un team di ricercatori composto da Filippo Biondi, Armando Mei e Corrado Malanga ha unito competenze ed esperienza per indagare ciò che finora nessuno aveva avuto la capacità o il coraggio di affrontare. In alcuni lavori precedenti – tra cui libri e un articolo scientifico pubblicato su una rivista internazionale – Malanga, Mei e Biondi avevano già esplorato la storia della Piana di Giza, collegando le costruzioni monumentali alle antiche conoscenze astronomiche del popolo egizio.
Questa volta, però, hanno fatto un passo oltre: grazie a tecnologie avanzate derivate dall’industria aerospaziale e a un approccio innovativo che trasforma le informazioni elettromagnetiche in spettroscopia fononica, sono riusciti a osservare l’interno della piramide di Khnum Khufu, rivelando strutture nascoste rimaste invisibili per secoli. Si tratta di elementi interni al monumento che gli egittologi cercavano da anni, usando tecniche non invasive.
L’idea di impiegare il radar ad apertura sintetica (SAR) per esplorare l’interno degli antichi monumenti megalitici egizi ha spinto i tre ricercatori a mettere in campo le proprie competenze per comprendere la reale struttura interna della piramide di Khafre. L’obiettivo: inserire le principali costruzioni della Piana di Giza in un contesto storico più ampio e accurato dell’antico Egitto.
I risultati di questo approccio storico-scientifico saranno presentati il 27 luglio a Spoleto, durante un importante evento al Teatro Nuovo Gian Carlo Menotti, organizzato dall’Associazione Culturale Visioni d’Autore per Spoleto Olistica.
